Puppet – Music Monday

I used to write poetry, back in the days when I didn’t know about fanfic and I didn’t think I could write short stories. I thought I would share one I wrote about music. It doesn’t rhyme, and it’s a train-of-thought, stream-of-consciousness sort of deal about what music does to me. Enjoy.

Puppet

Pounding through me like an insistent lover, the music takes me over.

Like a puppet with invisible strings, I begin to move to the sounds engulfing me as the band plays on, the world shrinking until there is nothing but the music and me.

And then it devours me, becomes me.

I am the music, it is me – the blood in my veins, the air in my lungs, the soul within, and the visage without.

What does music do to you? For you? With you?

  1. I sadly only listen to music when I’m at the gym; I tend listen to talk radio in the car. I know – boring! Anyway, what does my music do to me? It pumps me up! I feel energized when I listen.

BTW, it may not rhyme, but that doesn’t matter. Your poem is great. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Music does different things to me depending on the style. I listen to slow and sad stuff and it makes me slow and sad. I listen to upbeat stuff and it makes me feel upbeat. I listen to rocky stuff and it makes me feel, er, rocky? Well, I guess the analogy stops there. I keep motivating playlists to help me with my writing. Funny thing is a much prefer to listen with headphones. Probably because the neighbours would complain if I didn’t!

Here’s my pick for the week (you didn’t ask, but I’m going to tell you anyway). Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Better things. Apart from the brilliance of the band and song, they did a great job with the production/atmosphere.

    Cheers 🙂

Music does me the same way. It’s why I can’t listen to certain genres, especially the anger-filled ones. Also, headphones win because then you get the singer’s voice right in your ear. It feels more intimate. At least for me.

I’m usually listening to audiobooks while driving, but will listen to a couple hours of music to kinda cleanse my mind between books. As I’ve gotten old, my taste in music had mellowed a bit. A bit less Motorhead, a bit more Wagner, and Sousa.

Sousa only in small doses. Too much makes me think about invading other countries.

Oooh Wagner, man, you talk about something that is so amazing and filling… if music were food, Wagner would be a ten-course extravaganza!

That’s some kind of palate cleanser, man! 😀
